“We are not useless! Sign! Sign!”

“We have equal rights!”

Members of COSATU rallied a group of people around the Legislative Building to protest against the greedy political leaders of the Western Cape, as well as other shareholders (such as Pick ‘n Pay) who continue to ignore the growing poverty of the Western Cape workers. Members of COSATU are concerned that the Premier, Helen Zille, is leading a scramble for personal enrichment – raking in R1.6 million a year yet dismissing workers from stores, and subjecting already poverty stricken workers for a pittance of pay. COSATU emphasizes the need for the Premier to do the right thing and call on Pick ‘n Pay to stop the retrenchments; to commit to putting the jobs of the Western Cape people before their own personal gains by the 30th of September. If they fail, they will report to the Public Service Commission and call for their prosecution.
